Detailed schedule of 10-11th September, 2020

Programme 10-11

Is Europe the right scale in which stakeholders and actors can meet future challenges? 26th Conference of the PGV Network Grenoble, France 10-12 September 2020

Call for papers

The PGV network, created in 1994, gathers researchers from 10 European universities, it analyses the processes of Europe transformations. PGV network focuses on social and economical processes which occur in Europe. Since its foundation, the European Union has gone through many changes and developments (enlargement to new countries, the 2008 crisis, Brexit, etc…). Today, it is facing new challenges which will need changes in its orientation and in its governance. How do the actors (stakeholders) act in this environment? How does the European Union addresses political, social, environmental and economical issues? How it will deal with the countries seeking for power such as United States, Russia and China? Can Europe rely on the strength of its actors (stakeholders) who believe in its merits to meet international challenges?

The PGV network Conference aims to gather researchers in political sciences, management sciences, economy, law, sociology, history, geography, linguistic and communication sciences experts.

This conference also invites economic actors such as entrepreneurs, local authorities, members of consular chambers, civil society as well as associations which carry out pro-European projects (NGOs) which carry out European projects either locally or internationally.  Based on the analysis of actors and stakeholders strategies, the purpose of the Grenoble Conference is to present various views to answer two main questions: Where are we going and in which direction and why?

Proposals may concern communication strategies, methods of policy makers, European experiences of citizen’s rights respect as well as social achievements. The topics which address investment practices in Europe, skills transfers, cooperation between economic partners and companies and local authorities in cross-border areas, are welcome.

It could be interesting to analyze the past practices of actors which have generated a Europe as a “multi-speeds space”. This will imply studying the movement strategies inside the European area which enhances the project of “a Europe” answering the needs of Europeans.

The topic of the conference concerns the protagonist’s strategies deployed at different scales of the territory (local, regional, national, European or worldwide). These analyses are visible through the realization of projects in the fields of political actions, as public policies or economic, social and cultural policies. They imply collaborative or individual strategies.  Do these strategies seek to be more effective, or are they of a resilience nature?

The aim is to examine the scope of innovative initiatives in the fields of environmental action, the  the migration crisis handling, development of inclusive societies and the vulnerability of ageing populations.  The loss of values and the identity crises which affect many Europeans, generates extremes behaviors in the public as well as totalitarian movements. How do new forms of action, sometimes initiated across borders, weaken or enhance Europe?
